Opportunities

How can we help?

There are multiple channels we can use in order to contribute positively to biodiversity and a healthy ecosystem. We divided this into four basic groups. Each of these groups can mutually support each other and membership to one group does not exclude from the belonging to another group. Thus, as a farmer, you are also a customer, member of the community or maybe even a politically active citizen.

Each category includes a number of suggestions on how to support biodiversity.

Farmers

Being part of the agricultural sector gives countless opportunities to contribute positively to biodiversity.

Community

The community is the ideal place for individual people to have a real and long-lasting impact on their environment.

Consumer

As a consumer, there are a few simple steps you can take to further contribute to biodiversity.

Politics

There are numbers of ways in which interest groups can influence the law-making process.

This website investigates the tension between the European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and biodiversity.

One of CAP’s official goals is to benefit biodiversity [1,2], but there have been severe issues in realizing this goal, and, as we will argue, CAP falls short of being a solution to any of the major threats to biodiversity.

For the purpose of this investigation, we will introduce the reader to the general concept of biodiversity, analyze CAP itself, take a look at the upcoming reform of CAP and what this could mean for biodiversity, and discuss opportunities for different stakeholders that arise out of the current situation.
